- I am Paul a 57 year old male I have had an interest in Bedford vans on and of for 36 years, I think I picked up the bug from my father he had a number of CA vans and a CA Dormobile I remember having touring holidays when I was a nipper. Picked up my first van a CA when I was in my mid twenty's for £50.Had a number of bedfords over the years and always wanted to do a complete strip down and rebuild never had the time being a self employed plaster most of my working life,now I have plenty of time I can now get on with this restoration.When the arthritis lets me.

The van has been striped down to the shell every nut and bolt removed all glass etc removed to replace all rubber seals etc also makes it easier for spraying.
Suspension removed front and back for refurbishment new bushes bearings etc the nearside wishbones in need of replacement I had a new top one with bushes and ball joint (ebay £10 ) a couple of years ago managed to get a second hand lower one with nearly new bushes again ebay £10.
The offside top and lower bushes replaced lower ones I had (3 pairs) top ones £80 the pair from Adrian Bailey.
The braking system will be replaced with all new parts which I have the drums look new bit of luck.
I started the work on the van at the begining of october 2009 so have been doing it for three months now.
The chassis had thirty seven years of muck on it cleaned it back to bare metal welded a few bad bits and gave it three coats of good paint the two coats of underseal .
Sripped the wings and the rest of the cab including inside back to bare metal very little filling to do where it needed filling I cut the rot out and welded steel in only used filler to tidy up after the grinding.
Four coats of primer four coats of undercoat all synthetic to cab and wings etc.
Front suspension rebuilt doing rear and axle at the moment also making brake pipes.
The doors were rotted out along the bottoms and the lower front edges, Cut all the rot out and fabricated new sections and welded them in need to prep them up ready for spraying.
